February may be the shortest month but it always ends up being the busiest. My planner only had 5 empty days last month. Needless to say, it was a very hectic month filled with great memories and new favorites. Here are my top 5 moments, movies, and products from last month.
Birthdays
Why was everyone born in February? I spent 20/28 days wishing people a happy birthday. There were a ton of very special 21st, including my own. There isn’t enough time to get into all the birthday antics but here are some of my favorites.
Freja
Oh, what to say about Freja. My flatmate/ self-appointed best friend was born a week before me, so we get two weeks of celebrating and overeating. Her (but really our) parents came up to visit for her birthday weekend, which is the highlight of my year so far. They made sure that we ate real food and helped make our flat look presentable. The day of Freja’s birthday, Veronica and I planned a surprise dinner for her. Because she’s the most difficult person I know, Freja refused to go and insisted on ordering in. We eventually got her to the restaurant and had a fabulous time pretending to be social.
Voldermort
He who must not be named had a lovely party on the Royal Yacht Brittania. The canapes were to die for and there was an endless supply of champagne. Don’t really have much to say about it but I really like this picture.
Me
Because my flatmates are the cutest, they organized a lovely birthday brunch for me and invited a few of my friends. A couple of hours, 3 cakes, 21 cupcakes, and one severe food coma later, I was the happiest birthday girl on the planet. I’m having a more formal celebration next weekend so look out for a post about that.
Fashion shows
February marks the beginning of fashion show season in St Andrews. I was lucky enough to go to two. St Andrews Charity Fashion show was first up. A group of us got together for pres and pictures before heading to the show. The color coordination was not planned. Between the show and the afterparty, we left to go get food (#priorities). The night had its highs and lows but was definitely worth it.
A week later, we got to embrace our inner fashionistas again and attended DONT WALK. Because it was the night before my birthday and a few of our friends were modeling, we went all out. Think signs, excessive screaming, and many interesting decisions. I still don’t know how any of us were functioning the next day…
Black Panther
All the hype surrounding Black Panther was justified. I don’t normally care about Marvel films but this one was captivating from start to finish. The cast is incredibly talented (and gorgeous) and the storyline was compelling. I fell in love with Wakanda and everything that it represented. I loved the movie but I won’t pretend that it was perfect. Some of the narratives were problematic. After watching it the second time, my friends and I had a nearly 2 hour conversation about what we liked and what we would have changed. We argued about who the movie was intended for, discussed what the Wakandans really owed the world, and debated whether a person can claim a home that he/she has never been to. Even with its faults, Black Panther was necessary. It portrays Africa as beautiful and capable which is sooooooo important. Overall, it was amazing. I would definitely see it a third time. Wakanda forever!!!
Mac Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour
Shades: 24 | Price: £18
Full disclosure, I’m not a huge fan of lipstick. I normally opt for chapstick or a gloss if I’m feeling fancy. However, I have been loving Mac’s Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour in Carnivorous. I first saw this lipstick over the holidays in my mum’s makeup bag. I’m notorious for stealing her makeup and perfume so she quickly told me that I was not allowed to take it. Shockingly, I didn’t listen and I’m so glad that I didn’t. The formula is amazing. It’s not drying and there is minimal color transfer. There’s a good range of colors to choose from so there should be something for everyone. I highly recommend it.
Soup Club
Soup Club was briefly mentioned in The Verge of (Self) Love. A couple of my friends and I get together to catch up and eat soup. I promise its more exciting than it sounds. Our Valentine’s Day Soup Club was definitely one of my favorites. Olivia found the cutest heart shaped champagne flutes and helped Lindsay make a delicious pepper and butternut squash soup. The food was great and the company was decent. Freja was interrogated and ridiculed as usual. Olivia was the perfect hostess and darling Heath showed that he actually does like us somewhat by buying us chocolate. I ate more than I should have, a recurring theme from last month. It wasn’t a typical Valentine’s Day but I can’t think of a better way to have spent the day.
Honorable Mention – Heath
90% because he asked, 10% because I want him to teach me to make an apple pie. In all seriousness, Heath is a decent human. Even though he pretends not to like me, I know he secretly loves me. Thanks for being somewhat nice to me this month! Maybe next month you’ll make the real list!!
Sounds like it was an awesome month! I loved Black Panther! It was crazy, every time I tried to go see it, the tickets would be sold out. This happened to me like three times!😬

It was so like her to be difficult. She really wanted to order Italian so I said that I wasn’t in the mood for pasta and only suggested foods I knew she wouldn’t want until our other flatmate suggested going to the restaurant that her suprise party was at

haha You’re not alone! So it’s a phenomenon haha Last February, we celebrated my mother in law’s 70th birthday at a buffet restaurant and we called out all the February birthday celebrators among our guests of 100. It turns out, there was a total of 12 birthdays among our guests for the month of Feb, including the sister of my MIL who celebrated on the same day. waaaa It was crazy! The restaurant had to release 12 cakes just for our party alone hahaha That’s more than 10% of our guests!

Looks like you had quite a month there. Ah to be that young again and out with my friends. I can hardly imagine what that was like any more. It seems such a long time ago. Glad you had a good time. And I agree with you about Black Panther. It was amazing and beautiful as well as necessary, but not perfect.
