I really wish I had an elaborate excuse for being MIA. In all honesty, life just got very busy and blogging took a backseat. This semester has been crazy and I’m still not quite sure how I’ve made it through. Here’s a quick recap of what you’ve missed.
Don’t let this picture fool you. I’ve spent most of this semester on the verge of tears in the library. 4th year insists on destroying my life. Between my dissertation refusing to write itself and the lack of heating in my flat, things have been rough, to say the least. There’s also the issue of my immune system being even more ineffective than usual and postgraduate applications asking for the most random and unnecessary information, but those are stories for another day.* As trying as this year has been, I can’t complain too much. I’m surrounded by some of the best people and I’ve been making an effort to do all of the things that I’ve been putting off for 3 years. Even though I complain about St Andrews a lot, I’m so glad that I’m here. I want to say that next semester will be less stressful but I’ve accepted that probably won’t be the case. Like my friend Veronica says, at this point, I have to leave with a degree… even if it’s not mine (jokes… kind of…).
*sidenote: for anyone who is wondering what I’m doing next year, your guess is as good as mine but please keep asking so I have some motivation to finish my applications.
I (reluctantly) have to give Jon props for my latest book obsession. We’ve been reading the Cormoran Strike novels and they’re absolutely amazing. If you’re searching for a good whodunit, look no further. We just finished The Silkworm and started the BBC series, which I also recommend. I’m also reading Michelle Obama’s Becoming, but I probably won’t be able to finish that until exams are over.
Not going to lie, I’ve been listening to Christmas music since the beginning of November. Now that it’s finally December, I can unashamedly get into the Christmas spirit. So far, I’ve been to the Edinburgh Christmas Market and the outdoor ice skating rink, Jon and I have decorated his flat, and I’ve watched a few Christmas movies. Because exams are about to take over my life, I’m going to have to put Christmas, and joy in general, on the backburner for a while. I’ll be sure to update you on my festivities once I get home.
I realize that it doesn’t seem like you’ve missed that much but I promise that I’ve actually been busy. Like I said, exams are coming up, so I can’t commit to Blogmas, but I will be back to posting regularly after the holidays. Until then, I hope that you all have an amazing holiday season and enjoy time with friends and family.
